Year 3/4 football tournament

After some impressive trials, LWJ went to the Year 3 and 4 Football Tournament full of confidence and excitement.

During the group stage they played four games winning three and drawing one. The team played some devastating football and calved out lots of chances against some really good opposition.

The team qualified from their group in first place and would meet Winthorpe in the quarter final.

The team played really good football and comfortably won the game 3-1.

The semi-final match would prove to be a tense but exciting affair with probably the two best teams in the tournament going head-to-head - LWJ v Barnby Road.

Having done some 'scouting' earlier in the tournament, Barnby Road looked a very good team. They passed the ball well and scored lots of quality goals. We were in for a battle!

I could not have been prouder of our team! They fought for every ball and ran themselves into the ground. Barnby Road were magnificent but we matched them in nearly all departments. There were some great saves made by both keepers and some great last ditch tackles - the score remained at 0-0 so extra-time loomed!

During extra-time, both teams had the opportunity to win it but were foiled by narrow misses or moments of magic from the goalkeepers so unfortunately the only way to separate the two sides was the dreaded penalties.

Barnby Road came out on top in the penalties but our players will have learnt a lot from dealing with the disappointment of losing in the last minute and will come back stronger next time. Well played Barnby Road!

In the third/fourth place play-off, LWJ picked themselves up and went again. They ran out comfortable winners against Muskham and finished the tournament in 3rd place! An excellent first outing in the Lowe's Wong burgundy and blue!

Barnby Road went on to win the tournament so we were perhaps a penalty away from victory but credit where it is due, they had a brilliant team who ultimately deserved it!

Well done Year 4! Our school is so proud of your talent and attitude!
